Abstract

Any project of any reasonable size consists of many thousands, if not millions of decisions. So ubiquitous is decision making that we don't often stop to think that there is a direct correlation between the quality of the decisions we make in a project and the final outcome. Consistently make good decisions and the chances are you'll succeed. Make bad decisions and… well keep your fingers crossed.

Given the central importance of decision-making, it's important to understand the mechanics that allow some teams to make better decisions than others. Patterns in the Decision Engine is a talk that explores the process, people and organizational elements that need to come together in order for a team to make effective decisions. The talk explores the workings of successful projects and contrasts those with the patterns found in failed projects.

An assessment tool is used to help participants evaluate their own projects and determine what actions they need to take in order to strengthen the core decision-making capabilities of their team.
